Top 5 Outdoor Event Hot Spots in Christchurch
The beautiful Canterbury region has some of the most breath-taking spots and hidden gems, from the Canterbury plains to the ocean, to the secret spots all along the port hills there is a perfect location for your next event.
Here are Good Gathering’s top 5 picks to add to the must-visit list!
The Picturesque Port Hills
We had to make our number 1 the Port Hills, as there are so many breath-taking spots along everywhere you look. A small drive up Cashmere hill will lead you to some of the most beautiful spots overlooking the city or the Banks Peninsula. Plan your event for the afternoon, so you can enjoy the late afternoon sun and stay till sunset, something a picture won’t even be able to do justice!
Taylor’s Mistake
Just a half an hour drive from the centre of Christchurch is the beautiful beach Taylors Mistake, nestled in the hills. This is one of my favourite outdoor spots in summer to go to because there is great parking, facilities, and soft golden sand, perfect for an outdoor setup. However, the beach is packed with people on a warm summers day, so if you are wanting an event here in future, we suggest going in the evening or early to mid-morning.
Christchurch Botanic Gardens & Hagley Park
If you like trees and beautiful flowers then Hagley Park and the botanic gardens probably rate as one of your favourite “Go-To” places, just as it is Good Gatherings. With around 164 hectares to wander around in, and 5000 trees in Hagley Park and the Botanic Gardens there is always something new to see and enjoy, despite the weather. Our setups are beautiful under the big oak trees, down by the pond, near the flowers or just set up in the grassy field. There are endless setup options to choose from!
The Groynes
The Groynes is a great place for a picnic, get together or a day out. With lots of beautiful spots to choose from, we recommend one of our setups on the river island loop. Following the beautiful river with patches of dense, attractive bush and freshly mowed grassy areas, it’s an idyllic spot to sit and enjoy a gathering or picnic with friends right on the river bank.
Spencer Park & Bottle Lake Forest
Bottle Lake forest has an extensive pine plantation that runs alongside the coast in the north-east of the city. Nestled in the pine trees there are beautiful flat areas on the grass that are an ideal spot for one of our creations. Thousands of visitors visit this park every single year, but then because it’s so big it never feels crowded with people. This is a very picturesque and tranquil spot for beautiful photos too!
